It’s All About the Consistency- Science in Sport

“Disclaimer: I received SiS isotonic gels to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming aBibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review, find, and write race reviews.

If you are a runner then you have tried some sort of energy gel during training or a race. I have a very difficult time with consistency of most foods and this is no different with energy gels. For the most part i am okay with the first one, but if i need more than one i know extreme trouble is ahead. Enter in Science In Sport Isotonic Gel’s.

I have followed along with runners who swear by these as being a game changer, but I wasn’t ready to buy into another energy substance just yet. Luckily I belong to Bibrave and had the opportunity to test these out and boy did my opinion change. Now for the review of the product.  We were shipped a crazy supply of 4 types of gels by Science in Sport:

Their motto and secret behind the product is this, “Our world-famous Isotonic Energy Gels are carefully designed to digest quickly and easily, but don’t miss out on our Energy + Caffeine Gels, great for a mental boost, our Energy + Electrolyte Gels, designed to help keep you hydrated.” To top it off they stand behind the claim that you do not need to wash the gel down with liquid. If this is true then I’m sold!

I first tried the Expresso GO Energy + Caffeine Gel and boy did it make me “GO”. The taste was exactly like the name, coffee. I used this prior to an early morning run and it truly packed a punch and delivered the energy that I needed to get me out the door and complete a seven mile run. I had read reviews that others chilled these over night and they tasted like a iced coffee, so I gave it a try and it is now the way I kick off my morning runs. On a few longer runs I would use take one midway and it got me through those last grueling miles in the heat and humidity. Heck and good-bye to the cup of Joe in the morning.

The theme ran true for the other flavors of which both the Apple Isotonic Gel and Lemon + Mint GO Energy were my favorite. The Apple taste just like applesauce with a more liquid consistency. A mild and not over strong taste. I definitely did not feel fatigued during or after my workout. The only thing that I wasn’t a fan of was the size of the packet. If you had to carry multiple packets during a race this could be come an issue for pocket space. I can happily say that at no time did my stomach feel nauseous or have issues with any of the gels, even after taking multiple during a run.

I provided a fews samples to my running friends, who typically don’t use gels, and that had positive reviews on both the flavor and consistency. I know a few used the TRYSIS25 discount code to order.

My final thoughts are this, I am sold on the motto of the consistency. It truly allows me to consume gels without needing to carry or worry about having a liquid to wash them down. They offer several flavors, which in my opinion all taste very good. So my call to you would be use the promo code above and try this out, because you might just find out these are the next best thing outside of sliced bread!

  1. Thank you for sharing. Have never tried the SiS brand gels. Other energy gels I have tried don’t agree with me. Worth a try on a training run if they do claim to be “carefully designed to digest quickly and easily”. Always envious of runners who are able to get that extra energy boost from their energy gels! 🙂
