Bucket List Marathon – NYC Marathon

Ever since I started running just three years ago, the TCS New York City Marathon was coined a bucket list race for me for several reasons.

After three straight failed attempts through the lottery I started to lose hope and penciled in the date to try for a fourth time. Unexpectedly that dream became a reality a couple weeks ago and I will be now running in the 2018 TCS NYC Marathon.

So I guess I should explain why NYC Marathon means so much to me. For one NYC is where my running journey started just a little over three years ago. Running through the streets of New York City and Central Park can’t really be explained other than “surreal”. Shortly thereafter the 2015 NYC Marathon took place and I found myself mesmerized by the amount of people running, and knew I had to be a part of that one day. A lastly The New York area has been like my second home for the last ten plus years, as I’ve traveled for work so many times in each of the five boroughs.

As you can expected my focus on training has increased and I feel like I am in a good place. I am not looking to go out and PR, although that would be a bonus, but more importantly just want to enjoy the 26.2 mile journey, take in the sights, and appreciate the enormous crowds that are expected.

The next month will surely fly by and before I know it I will be taking the Ferry to Fort Wadsworth early on Sunday morning. I know this race “Will test me” and I certainly know this race “Will move me”!!! So make sure you follow along as I run in the race of a lifetime!

Have you ever ran in the NYC Marathon? What was your favorite part? What were some of the struggles you experienced?
