Over the last month my daughter and I have been training for the DooGood 5k, which is the September race in the Scooby-Doo Virtual Race Series, and I cay say that we successfully completed it. To our surprise our new four legged Boxer, Lila, came home just in time to finish the last few mile with us! It definitely took some “Puppy Power” to push through those last couple of miles!
So what actually is the Scooby-Doo Virtual Race Series? Well if you haven’t checked out my first post, it is a must as a lot of the details can be found there. For the short version this is virtual run, meaning any location on any date during a set period date range. The race series has the DooGood 5k in September and the Scoobtober 5k/10k in October. The race promotes running with a four legged friend as a portion of the registration fees goes to Best Friends Animal Society. The cool part everyone gets race swag, yep the dogs 🐕 as well, Zoinks!!! Unfortunately we are still waiting to be awarded our medals and swag, but as soon as they are received for the DooGood 5k I will post up some pictures. In the meantime here is what we are expecting.
So how did our training for the race go? Well I really enjoyed this virtual race as my daughter wanted to be a part of it. She joined me on several runs both by foot and bike. The time we spent together was absolutely awesome. I won’t admit it but she pushed me on several of those runs and had me panting. Then on the last day of September our new girl, Lila, arrived and we all set out on what was an interesting trot / walk, as this was Lila’s first time on a leash, so as you can expect it was full of laughter.
We had fun but it wasn’t our best time 43:21 for a 5k, but we have challenged ourselves to improve on part 2 of the race series Scoobtober in October.
Thoughts on the Scooby-Doo Virtual Race Series:
– Great that you can select any date or time to run. Good for active families that don’t have time to select a destination 5k
– Allowed me to run with my daughter and dog. Family bonding is always awesome.
– Everyone gets some cool swag!!!
– Only negative point is we didn’t have the cool race swag by the time we finished our race. We all love those post race medal photos!
Instead we took a post race nap.
So if you didn’t have the opportunity to take part in the DooGood 5k, you still have time to register for the October Scoobtober 5k or 10k virtual race. If you do make sure to take advantage of saving 10% and use BIBRAVE when registering.
Update: Race Medals and Swag:
See you racing in October!!!
Have you ever taken part of a virtual race? Have you ever raced with your pet?
