If you truly know me, you know i am listening to music when I run. What took me a long time to realize, was that having ear buds shoved in my ears I wasn’t running safe. It took one incident where I was almost hit, that I knew it was time to either run without music in order to be aware of my surroundings or find another option. As most of you know I was introduced to AfterShokz headphones, but can we really label them that, over a year ago. Since then I have been running safe and aware with their devices. When offered to test the new AfterShokz TrekzAir I jumped right on board.

For those not familiar with the AfterShokz brand and their technology, all of their headphones do not require one to insert an ear bud into or cover the ear. Instead the use of bone conducting technology is used, which basically means the headphones are placed around the ear and onto the bone right in front of the ear. Or for a more technical description from AfterShokz, “Transducers guide mini vibrations through the cheekbones to the inner ears, delivering sound without plugging or covering them.”

Pretty ingenious if you ask me and have provided me with, situational awareness and comfort. So why try the new AfterShokz Trekz Air if I was already satisfied with the Trekz Titanium?

The obvious answer is because the AfterShokz Trekz Air is their next generation in open ear headphones and are 20% lighter than the above mentioned Trekz Titanium. Not that they were overly heavy, but I did notice they were there during my longer runs. So how did AfterShokz drop 20% of the weight? They cut the bulk and used Titanium everywhere possible, without losing battery or sound performance. Get out of here…we’ll let me say my first run was a distance run with these and several times I had to check to see if they were still on my head. Talk about light and awesome sounding! I mean what else could you possible ask for?

So I know what your thinking, “How can the sound be awesome, if they aren’t actually in or over your ears?” Through the use of PremiumPitch™️ and LeakSlayer™️ the above are accomplished. I was skeptical at first, but my testament is true as I now own three pairs of AfterShokz’s.

My Thoughts:

Easy to pair with your mobile device as you are guided by Audrey through the pairing process. We all know wireless is key and prevents the mid run cord tangles. Additionally the battery life is pretty awesome and I only find myself charge every 15 or so runs, obviously distance restricted. The sound of this rival against my Bose noise canceling heaphones in quality of sound. Lets call it amazement how these sound even with them being open ear. Oh I did forget to mention these are waterproof and sweat resistant. Price wise these are competitively priced against any Bluetooth wireless headphones on the market. My final thought is if you are looking for a pair ofheadphones that provide quality sound and most of all safety, then the AfterShokz Trekz Air are it.
